“The sun will come up tomorrow and you never know what the tide will bring…†~ Castaway

Do you feel that you are experiencing a dark night? Clients tell me isolation, pandemic, and politics feels like an endless night. Perhaps you, too, are struggling with loneliness or separation from loved ones, with the constant barrage of politics, or you may be feeling all hope is lost.

A sunset over the ocean with people on the beach.I have experienced these feelings from time to time. For me, it is sometimes difficult to maintain balance and center myself when I am having these experiences. Yet, I know that persistent practice and surrendering to the present moment is what sustains me and carries me through these times.

There is a power in the Universe greater than I am, and I can depend on it to get me through the dark times, as well as help me celebrate the beautiful times. You may call this power Allah, Buddha, Jesus, Lord, God, Presence, or many other names. Yet, no matter what we call it, it is all-powerful, every present, and all-knowing. It operates in and through all. It is the love that we are.

If I am too distracted to center myself and meditate, I choose to remember that the Universe is unfolding as it should. I know, and I affirm, “the sun will come up tomorrow, and you never know what the tide will bring.†For the Castaway, it brought him a raft that provided him with a means to return to civilization.

There are brighter days ahead; civilization will prevail.
